I like to think that I’m a woman of many words and that I can use my vocabulary to motivate and inspire children. Well, at our last volleyball game, I might have been able to find better words to express my feelings. But I didn’t.
So there we were, warming up before the match. My girls looked like they didn’t have a clue as to what to do or where to go. One might think, “Well, they might not know where to go due to the new line up or rotation.” Ummm, no. We have been starting this way for the last eight games.
To say the least, I was a little ticked. My pregame speech was something like:
We don’t have practice tomorrow and I won’t be at Thursday’s practice because I have a meeting. But if you play like you warmed up, I will skip my meeting and come to practice. Trust me, you won’t want me there! You will be thinking you’re on the track team instead of the volleyball team!
We weren’t in the right spots, we weren’t moving, but we were letting several balls hit the floor. That is not how you win volleyball games, friends. Our team won the first game, but it was not from our superior volleyball skills that match. It was more of a result of the other team being terrible and literally falling all over the place. I don’t like winning that way, but I’ll take a win any way I can get it!
My moment of excellence came at the huddle between the games. I was giving out expert advice (cause that’s what I do, friends) and I had girls in the back chit-chatting about something not nearly as important as what I had to say. I lost it. I’m not sure exactly what came tumbling out of my mouth just then, but it was along the lines of:
Hey! You are being disrespectful! And you’re playing like crap! I have been playing volleyball since before you were born, so I literally have your whole lifetime of experience over you! You might want to listen to what I have to say because I know a thing or two about this game!
Either I'm going to be the meanest pregnant woman ever, or I'm PMSing. Time will tell!
She wasn't so Scary.
