I love summer! Especially when I'm not spending it slaving away trying to not kill entertain children.
Don't get me wrong, I LOVE my bedroom set and mattress that I got last year but I worked hard (and got worked over) with those "naughties" at the Y. Although, they have worked their way into my heart and I do love them with all their orneriness included. Nothing like seeing them out and about and giving them a "Hey girl!" or a "Hey dude!" and seeing them break into a smile and give a shy "Hi Mrs. Wies!" then confirm with the adult they are with that I am not in fact a creeper with a whispered "That's my Y teacher."
I will be doing a little subbing at the Y this summer and going on field trips with them on Wednesdays. Who doesn't love a good field trip?
Since I have cut my own working hours this summer, my summer treat to myself is way smaller than last year's treat.
I bought myself a Kindle. And I love it!
My friend and I are sharing an account since we have such similar tastes in books (we're always trading and recommending books to each other). Kind of our ways of "beating the system" until December when we can borrow e-books from the Columbia library.
And yes, as with last year, I have already purchased my summer treat before technically having worked any during the summer. It's not the most responsible thing but it gives me motivation to keep going back to work.
Another exciting thing lined up for this summer is that I'm getting LASIK eye surgery. Tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. to be exact. And I am so excited to have the doctor laser parts of my eye off (or whatever they do). For real!
In case you didn't know, I'm very, very, very nearsighted. My glasses lenses are about a centimeter thick which means I always have to pay to get them thinned or they won't fit in frames. Yep, I'm nearly blind. So, I'll do whatever it takes to not have to wear glasses or contacts. I can't even remember what it's like to wake up and be able to see!
To round out all the fun in June, I'm also taking a few classes. So if you want to get a hold of me on Thursday night, Friday night, or during the day on Saturday, I'll be in class. Could I sound any nerdier?
Luckily, all my classes that actually meet in person are with a great professor, Dr. Carol Maher who was the superintendent my first year of teaching and someone I really admire. She's got her stuff together and has a good sense of fashion. The fashion seems like a silly thing to mention but if I can be that snazzy of a dresser when I'm her age, I'm doing very well!
I'll also be doing the Insanity workout this summer with some friends in my basement. I'm four days in and still alive. Woo hoo! It's, well, it's insane! But doing the workout with these girls is hilarious because they like to talk back to the TV just as much as I do!
Lots of fun stuff planned for this summer and I can't wait to enjoy it!
