I just realized that it has been over a month since my last post. Wow! Maybe that gives you an idea of how incredibly hectic it has been around here. With puppies, a new part time job, the end of school, and keeping track of remodeling, it's been so crazy!
The puppies are 5 1/2 weeks old now. They are so unbelievably cute, but also loud. And messy. So my seven little babies got moved outside. And Orscheln's Farm and Home got a nice fat payment for two more dog houses. One for the puppies and one for Roxy. Roxy is officially the farm dog. Free to roam wherever she pleases. This means that she will stand out in the rain for two solid days by the dog pens. Maybe she thinks she needs to protect the puppies (she does take a babysitter role) or maybe she's just patiently waiting for us to let the other dogs out. Anyhow, we moved her doghouse from the walkout by the house to the mud/grass by the pens. In the rain. Now that I think about it, every time we've had to do something with the dogs this weekend, it has been in the rain. Blech!
I know you're curious about that part time job that I mentioned. I gave in and applied to work at the YMCA and was instantly recruited to work with the Y Kidz (yes, it bothers me that it is spelled with a "z") Program. My only request was that I work with primary school kids as opposed to kids that I will have in my class next year or the year after. So far, I'm just working a few days after school with them working on reading and not being a punk in general. The kids that qualify for this program are pretty much the squirrels of the school. Just last week, I had a kindergartner walking his 5 minutes at play time yelling at the top of his lungs, "You're mean! You're mean! You're mean!" over and over and over. I wanted to let him know, "Duh! Get used to it and get with the program," but I think it will be more entertaining to let him learn it on his own. I feel that you're thinking I'm crazy to waste away my summer off working at the YMCA, but I need a new bedroom set. Correction: I bought a new bedroom set and need to pay for it. No backing out now!
As far as remodeling goes, we're getting ready to finish the basement. We have to get everything, and I mean everything, out of the basement so we can paint the floors. I have been on a desperate mission to get rid of one of the couches and Clint's cousin finally helped me out and will be taking it off our hands soon. Next item to get rid of, bedroom set. Although, I'm a little afraid to put it on Craigslist as it will probably go really fast and we will be doing the minimalist bedroom furniture thing until our new furniture gets delivered in July. Although our new Sleep by Number mattress is incredible! I recommend them to everyone!
And last, but certainly not least, the end of school is near! Can I get a Woo Hoo? Woo Hoo! Although last week was the most stressful week of school I have ever taught! We had to have grades done by Wednesday and for some reason up until Monday I thought the due date was Friday. So you can imagine my mad dash of grading and posting grades. Also assessing the asses off of these kids and planning our 5th grade celebration. That was the true nightmare. Awards assembly, parents in the class for an hour and a half, then 2 hours a the YMCA planned by yours truly. I spent all of Friday night, Saturday, and Sunday recovering. At least it's over! Just 3 1/2 more days left. I'm sure we can make it through!
So hopefully, I'll have lots to post about this summer with no homework to grade and 4 dogs to entertain me.
