Locker Room Talk

So there I was in the locker room at the YMCA, getting ready for work and revelling in the glory that was my run for the morning. Ok, glory might be pushing it but I was definitely proud of myself. One of the wonderful older ladies who frequents the Y came in and said, "I don't know how you do it. All that running. It made me tired just watching you!"

I told her, "I don't know how I do it either, I just started off really slow."

I was putting on my makeup and basking in the glow of the compliment when another older gal chimed in with, "Yeah, these young kids are made different than us. But we worked a lot harder when we were young." And she kept on doing her thing.

I thought about what she said and I think it was a little bit of a slam. She's just assuming I haven't had to work hard. If we're talking physical labor, she's probably right. But if we're talking about hard work in general, I'm going to have to argue that point. I've worked very hard to get where I'm at today and I don't really care for someone who doesn't know me from Jack to just assume that I haven't worked hard.

So I did a mental "Harumph" and sent her the ESP message, "What do you know, lady?" and I got on with my day.
