Once Upon a Crafternoon

Hi, my name is Carlei, and I'm addicted to Pinterest.

I love all the crafty business on Pinterest.  Ok, I love almost everything about Pinterest!

I was searching for a crafty gift idea for my friend's wedding shower with the theme "stock the bar".  I usually do a towel cake with a few of my favorite kitchen items for a bridal shower gift.  But on this one I wanted to stick to the theme.

I hemmed and hawwed about what the heck to get the couple besides just a bunch of alcohol.  It was then that I got a great idea about a variation to my towel cake.  I made a wine cake!

It was so much fun, I decided to give a little tutorial (minus pictures because this is the only one I took).

Materials:
cake stand
ribbon
hot glue gun
2 10-inch cardboard cake circles
fake flowers
tin can
20 mini wine bottles (I used Sutter Home)
1 fifth of alcohol
embellishments

Directions:
1.  Take 12 of the wine bottles and place them on a cake circle so they are in a circle.
2.  Once you get them where you want them, mark where they are on the cake circle with a pencil.
3. Attach the wine bottles to the cake circle with a dollop of hot glue.
4.  Measure about 1 1/2 -2 inches in from the edge on another cake circle and trim off. *
5.  Cut a hole in the trimmed cake circle that you can fit the tin can and the fifth of alcohol through.
6.  Hot glue the second cake circle to the top of the first layer of wine bottles.
7.  Arrange the 8 remaining wine bottles in a circle on the second cake circle.
8.  Mark where they are with a pencil and hot glue them to the circle.
9.  Wrap ribbon around the tin can and hot glue to stay in place.
10.  Hot glue the base of the fifth to the tin can.
11.  Hot glue the tin can to the first cake circle.
12.  Wrap each layer with ribbon, hot gluing it in place.
13.  Embellish with flowers and other decorations.
14.  Place on cake stand.  Be careful, it's heavy!

* Note, it took me 2 tries to get the second cake circle right, so you might want to have some extras in case you mess up.
