Fertility and Politics

With all the political ads and articles out there right now, it's hard not to get riled up about something.  One thing I'm noticing about some of the candidates is that they are falling back really hard on their religious beliefs.  And the ones that irritate me are the ones who want to mess with my rights of what to do with my body.

And of course they're men.

Because of THEIR religion, they think certain things concerning MY body should be illegal because they are immoral according to them.  I don't agree with, nor do I support abortion, but I think messing with a woman's choice of what to do with her body is crossing a line.  And when people say what about if a woman is raped, there's that infamous comment about what constitutes as legitimate rape.  Because if it's legitimate rape, your body would reject the pregnancy.

So....since we really, really want to be pregnant, my body should sense that, right?  And I must not really want to be pregnant because I would already be, right?  But wait, if I really can't get pregnant on my own, according to THEIR religion, I shouldn't do IVF because it's immoral.  And if they get elected, they are going to push to also make it illegal so everyone can live according to THEIR religion.

I don't know what you learned about in school, but what I teach in my class in American history is that people first came to the colonies for religious freedom.  And that a large part of our history as a country is based on being free.  So, shouldn't I be free to choose what I do to my body?

Ok, I'm off my soapbox now.  But if those a-holes get elected, I'm going to be super pissed!
