This is a poem I wrote to go along with a gift to my team teachers. We were all ready for break and our 5th graders were going bonkers! Enjoy!
Twas
the Night Before Break
Twas
the night before break and all through the school,
Teachers
were losing it and starting to drool.
The
grades were imported into SIS with care,
And
the crazy parents were notified they were there.
The
students were stuffed with too many Christmas treats,
And
starting to act out the stupidest feats.
With
my head in my hands and clipboard on my lap,
I sat
there thinking, “Who does this crap?”
When
all through the school there arose such a clatter,
I
sprang from my desk to see what was the matter.
Away
to the door I flew like a flash,
Peered
out the glass to see the great dash.
The
glare of the bulbs showed all the facts,
There
was a mob going to get their buddy packs.
When
what to my wandering eyes should appear,
But
one of my favorite subs drawing near.
She
said she was called to help in my class,
Because
I’ve been given a leave early pass.
More rapid than eagles I gathered my things,
And
yelled to the kids, “See ya in January, you ding-a-lings!”
I
rushed to my car so giddy I could shout,
But I
didn’t say anything, I just wanted out.
The
teachers all heard me as I drove out of sight,
“Happy
Christmas to all, and to all a good-night!”
