The Big Day

So today was the big day.  Embryo transfer day.  Our appointment wasn't until 1:00 so I was able to go to school for half a day.  I know it sounds crazy, but I needed to wrap up my year and be there for the first part of their 5th grade celebration.  It also made the day fly by and kept my mind off of how anxious I was.

The celebration went well despite my dreams that I had parents try to chew me out.  Actually, a set of parents that really surprised me with a nasty e-mail with a follow-up meeting were very kind and made a point to tell me how good the school year ended up.

As soon as 11:30 hit, I was out the door and on my way to pick up Clint so we could get this party started!

The most entertaining part of today had to be watching Clint figure out how to put the shoe covers on!  He got them and put them on and it just didn't look right.  I couldn't help him out because I didn't know either!  After the endocrinologist came in and left, he saw hers and figured it out.  He didn't have them all the way unfolded, so no wonder they didn't cover his shoes!  He was very proud for figuring it out!  So funny!

The hardest part of the whole thing was going in with a full bladder and not peeing all over everyone.  Other than that, it was pretty stinkin' cool!  Jamie, the endocrinologist, came in with pictures of the embryos we were going to transfer.

Then we went into the procedure room and got ready.  Dr. Wilshire came in and we started the procedure.  I was complimented on my very full bladder and it made the view so much better and my uterus was tilted forward (instead of backwards like normal).  Then they brought over the embryos and the endocrinologist said, "I have two embryos for Carlei Wies."  To which I replied, "Over here, table two!"

Then the real deal got started.  Clint watched on the ultrasound screen as Dr. Wilshire placed the embryos in.  I couldn't see it, but he said it was one of the coolest things he had seen.  When the embryos were loaded and ready to go in, Dr. Wilshire yelled, "Fire!" and when they got to the right spot, "Bulls eye!"  His sense of humor along with the amazing nurses have really made this whole journey a lot easier to deal with!

After that, I had to lay down for an hour (and wait ten whole minutes before I could pee)!  Clint and I just talked about how truly awesome this whole procedure was.  I know some people think that IVF isn't how God intended us to have babies, but I disagree.  I really feel that God guided the scientists and doctors who developed IVF so that there is hope for couples like us.

Now, we just have to wait 9 days for the "official" blood test to see if these little guys decided to stick around!
